This new addition to the Cambridge Original Printmakers programme is a unique opportunity to
explore the ancient craft of bookbinding in a historic centre. Book making has been part of The Pitt Building's story since its opening in 1833. Before and after your lesson you can get 'bang up-to-date' with contemporary art feasting on all the beautiful hand-pulled prints on display.
During the class you will be led through the processes necessary to make your own hand-sewn and hand-bound notebook using traditional materials (including beautiful locally handmarbled papers) and techniques. We will also look at how a simplified version of this binding can be turned into an artist sketchbook or become the beginning of a book arts project. Participants will go home with their own gorgeous book and the confidence and instructions to repeat the process at home – without the need for specialist equipment.
The workshop is suitable for all levels of experience including those completely new to bookbinding, and all necessary materials are provided. Pre-prepared kits will be available if you wish to put your new knowledge into practice immediately. Max 14.
